PHOENIX WRIGHT, ACE BAKER AT LAW
(presented without context for spoilers)
i was like halfway through drawing this when i remembered another comic someone drew that was kind of similar, oops (but i’m posting this anyway because gosh dang it i didn’t draw phoenix’s hair this many times for nothing)
the Ace Ace series
Since this conversation has stretched on so long I feel I should note Mia Fey in Ace Attorney is a good example of a woman dying in story with a male main character that isn’t fridging. Even though it furthered Nick’s narrative. She died investigating her OWN case and carrying out her work, and her spirit even came back to help solve it, making her death part of her story as well. Her death was also as much to further Maya’s story, and it was basically a way to get Maya and Nick together as partners, so it was definitely a case of “the plot falls apart without her and now the characters have to scramble around and it takes a new direction because she was so needed”. There was even that moment where Pearl turns into Mia and Maya can finally embrace her sister again- it was so completely about the two of them and Mia being proud of Maya and Maya carrying on for Mia.
And Nick never considered Mia’s death a failure on his part or wound from his past- he just wanted to live up to what she’d taught him and continue her legacy.
And to cap it all off, the third game was as much Mia’s game as it was Nick’s- complete with flashbacks to her first case and a woman she’d put in jail wanting to take out the people she loved to get back at her and THEN MIA MANAGES TO COME AND TAKE HER OUT EVEN AS A DEAD WOMAN.The entire game was like “Mia died, but she’s so badass she’ll beat her enemies even in death.” So like, her death was completely about her narrative and part of her narrative! It’s a great example of how to handle that sort of thing.
Meanwhile Godot was trying to make Mia’s death about him- “she died because of you! She died because I couldn’t protect her~!”, and was shown as wrong in doing so, whereas Nick’s method of respecting her as his hero and mentor and carrying on her legacy was shown as right.
Basically, Ace Attorney will show you how to kill a female character off in a male-centered narrative and not fridge her.
[x]Nick, help me… I’m scared…

Not photographed: Games, comics, artbooks (there are so many @A@ hhhhh maybe someday!)
I got new shelves for my collections earlier this summer and I was super excited because I thought it would mean I could display my AA collection (and my tiiiiiny GT collection that consists of those two plushies) better. I couldn’t have been more wrong hahah just look how crammed everything is. @v@;;; Need to think of a better way to display them soon!
Lighting in my apartment is awful, so I’m sorry about the flash effects (the glowing Nick, Franziska and Godot charms in the back look so funny hahah). :’>
